How to Start a Successful Dropshipping Store

Dropshipping is a business model that has become increasingly popular and fire hot over the past few years.
How it works?
When a customer places an order with your store, you order from the dropshipper, who ships direct to the customer. So, you are the middle man in the transaction.
Dropshipping is so popular because it takes the fulfillment out of the hands of storeowners. In an inventory held business model, a store owner would hold inventory and be in charge of packing and shipping orders. Dropshipping is handled directly by the dropshipper!
Not only is this convenient for store owners but it also saves money. To store inventory costs money, to order large quantities of product costs money, and supplies and postage cost money. All of these costs are mostly avoided when dropshipping is done.
So, how do you get started? Here’s an easy step-by-step tutorial to getting started with dropshipping.
An Easy Dropshipping Tutorial
Step 1.) Pick a niche
This is critical. You wanna figure out what you’ll be selling. When picking your niche you want to consider competition, barrier to entry into the marketplace, sourcing, and costs.
Don’t forget your keyword research!
Here are some examples of products you can dropship:
- Womens, mens, or childrens apparel
- Gadgets and tech products
- Home decor
After you pick your niche, next step is sourcing!
Step 2.) Sourcing
Sourcing means researching the market to find out where you can get your product from dropshippers. Dropshipping is not widely adopted so it may take some time and some major research skills to find dropshippers. Some examples:
Join some forums for wholesale and dropshipping to find out more about dropshipping sources.
Step 3.) Store setup

- Designing your store
- Adding photography
- Setting up your navigation menu
- Writing product descriptions
- Adding your contact information
- Adding relevant pages (About Us, FAQ, Sizing chart, etc.)
Step 4.) Launch and promotion
Launch time! Go live! The second you do, hit the ground running with promotion. You can do free and/or paid promo. You want to get visitors to your store obviously.
Social media will be your friend here and you can start your social media accounts and get followers even BEFORE you launch!
