12 Ways to Make Money You Haven’t Heard Of
There are a ton of quirky ways to make money (and good money, at that) today. If you’re looking for some extra cash for an upcoming event, shopping spree, unexpected expenses, or really any reason at all, you’ll love this list of 12 ways to make money you haven’t heard of. Ready to kick things off?
Here’s the list:
#1.) Sell Used Books: Ok, this isn’t too weird but a lot of folks don’t know about this. When I was in college, I sell my old books on eBay. Today, there are tons of ways to make cash for used books and not just college books either. This includes cookbooks, fiction, manuals, etc. Check out these options:
- Sell through a marketplace: Ebay, Amazon, and Craigslist are examples
- Sell on Facebook: Head over to the local garage sale Facebook groups for this. It’s kind of like Craigslist for goods but hyperlocal. There are groups for cities, neighborhoods, subdivisions, zip codes, schools, etc.
- Bookscouter: You will FALL IN LOVE with this app! It’s the coolest thing. Scan your book barcode then get a list of 10 book stores that will buy your book from you on the spot! Just pick the bookstore you want to sell your book to, receive their shipping details, ship and get paid!
#2.) Lose weight: Huh? I know what you’re thinking but this is legit friends. You can get paid to lose weight through HealthyWage. How it works? Join a wellness challenge and win a cash prize. This is so fun.
Once you join a challenge you will contribute a set amount of money (that you determine, example: $25, $50, etc.) to make a wager. You also set your weight loss goal. If you lose the weight, you win cash, via check or PayPal. That’s it! Check out this success story from Kristin who lost 114 pounds and won $4,000!
#3.) Rent your car out: Through Turo you can rent your car and earn extra money! A car valued at $20,000 would earn you an extra $6,501 per year if you rented it out 15 days per month. Pretty cool, huh? Learn more about Turo here.
#4.) Opening a new account: Yes, that’s right. If you open a new bank account or credit card, many companies offer sign up bonuses which range from cash, luxe gifts, gift cards, and more!
- Regions Bank is offering $200 for opening a new checking account.
- Chase provides up to a $300 bonus for new account.
- Citibank provides a $500 bonus for new account.
#5.) Sell your hair: Yes, this does exist. Head over to onlinehairaffair.com to learn more.
#6.) Donate plasma: These are paid donations, my friend. My boyfriend (now hubby) used to do this when we were in college, for extra spending money. He could make around $120/week donating 2x week. CSL Plasma pays up to $400/month.
#7.) Join a competition: This might not be quick money but you can certainly earn a lot. Eating competitions or gaming competitions are some examples and they can pay up to 5 figure top prizes or higher! Some other competitions that pay:
- Business competitions
- Writing contests
- Pet competitions
- Car shows
- Bike shows
#8.) Start a blog: Write about your favorite things and get paid for. This blogger earns $5K per month on a new blog! I’ve made $20K+ in 2017 with new blogs! Learn how to start your blog on the cheap in less than 20 minutes.
#9.) Take surveys: This is great because you can start right away (like right now), earn, and get paid daily with some sites. My favorites: Vindale Research ($2 sign up bonus + earn $10/day or more), Survey Savvy (the highest paying offers), Pinecone Research (high paying offers and easy), and Cashback Research ($5 sign up bonus, super easy and top offers).
#10.) Rent out your camera: Go to KitSplit and get paid to rent out your gear like DSLR cameras, filming cameras, lenses, etc. Make an extra $20K per year renting out your equipment 3 days a month (gear value of $20K).
#11.) Get paid to drive around and do nothing: You read this right. Get your car wrapped in ads (partial wrap and full wrap available) and get paid to drive around. The amount you earn is determined by your geographic location, commute, etc. Carvertise and Wrapify are a few companies that offer this service. You can make a cool $100/month or more!
#12.) Rent your spare bedroom: Get with Airbnb and rent your spare room to make some extra money every month. This has gotten very popular so you’ll likely have a nice audience of interested parties.
