10 Ways to Get More Engagement to Your Blog Post
Note: This post may contain affiliate links.
Getting engagement period, let alone more engagement can be difficult for blogs, especially a new blog.
Engagement is how your readers are actively responding to your blog post. This is typically blog comments and shares. Getting comments and shares does so much for your traffic. Let’s break down each one to examine them closely:
A blog comment is when a reader leaves a comment on your post. This is their reaction to the post.
Did it touch them, inspire them, did they love or hate it? Usually comments are positive but it’s not unusual to have negative comments either. Either way, comments are a great way to help make your blog more popular and grow.
If readers see comments on a blog post, they might want to join the club and leave a comment too! Blog comments add to your post. They make your post longer essentially and the longer your post, the better you will rank (SEO). Not to mention the impact they have on readers as shared above.
So, comments are good! Psstt..in order to have comments, make sure you have this feature enabled on your blog.
A blog post share is when a reader shares your post, either across a social network, emails to a friend, etc. In order to have blog shares, make sure you have sharing buttons on your blog and in your blog post.
Share buttons look like this:
These buttons shown above are from Social Warfare (paid plugin). Your social share buttons will look like this or pretty similar. Sometimes they are round buttons, square buttons, different colors, all the same color, etc. You can really customize them however you wish.
Where to get Share Buttons
If your blog is on WordPress (highly recommended, my dear) then you just head to your Plugins section, click Add New and type Social Sharing for a huge list of social share button options to pop up. Just pick one, install, and activate. Easy!
If you love the look and feel of the share buttons I personally use on every single blog I’ve owned, head to Social Warfare to grab your buttons. They have a bunch of other cool features too. You will love it and at $29 per year, you can’t beat the price. One of my #1 top recommended blog investments!
This leads us to #1 in 10 ways to get more blog engagement
1.) Share buttons: Make sure these are on your blog and visible on each blog post.
2.) CommentLuv or Disqus plugin: CommentLuv is a comment plugin that lets commenters place a link to their last blog post. Disqus makes comments search engine indexed (for SEO) along with some other cool features. Both are great. I personally always use CommentLuv.
3.) Ask for engagement: Ask for it! Simple as that. I always ask for it in every post. At the end of my article, I ask readers a question and ask them to respond in comments and/or share the post.
4.) Facebook: Promote your post in Facebook. Facebook groups are great for this!
5.) Pinterest: Pin like crazy. This is part of my promotion strategy. I create 2 pinnables (designed graphics for Pinterest) for each blog post and pin them as soon as I publish my post. It’s a great way to spread the word and get engagement.
6.) Stumbleupon: Also a critical part of my promo strategy. I stumble my post as soon as it’s published. I also participate in the platform by stumbling other posts, which helps me because Stumbleupon rewards those (by showing your content more) that use the platform often.
7.) Syndication: Content syndication means you have your post published on other news or content sites like Digg, Mashable, Bloglovin, etc. Find syndication sites in your niche and republish to those for added exposure and more engagement.
8.) Instagram: One of my favorite social networks and a great place to get likes, comments, and engagement on your posts. Make sure to completely fill out your bio, including a description of your blog and blog url.
9.) Reddit: A platform I’m just starting to explore now. There are tons and tons of subreddits you can share you post to, for feedback and comments.
10.) Paid engagement: Advertising solutions like Stumbleupon Paid Discovery or Outbrain are some examples of how to get paid engagement. You set up your campaign and budget then run it! Easy.
Engagement is very critical to the success of your blog. You want people talking about your post and blog so it can become popular, get more traffic, go viral, and help your growth.
Hope these tips help you achieve more engagement on your blog. I follow this strategy on every post I publish for each of the blog’s I’ve created (psstt..this is blog #4) and it works like a charm.
On a 1 month old blog (bestofbudgets.com) I can publish a post at night and have hundreds of shares the next morning!
